** Important information for Active Duty Service Members**

COVID-19 update: To ensure the safety of both patients and dental staff, the American Dental Association is asking that all elective (non-emergency) dental procedures be postponed at this time. Click here for more information on dental emergencies.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency (emergency dental care includes any treatment necessary to relieve pain, treat infection, or control bleeding) you should:

  • Call United Concordia’s dental emergency line at 1-800-858-0051*
For more information on remote and DTF-referred emergency policies, click here.

* Note that this line is to be used for dental emergencies only.  It is available Sunday, 6:00 pm - Friday, 10:00 pm, Eastern Time.

You may also seek care for a dental emergency from your closest emergency room; however, please understand that the healthcare system may be overwhelmed with medical patients at this time and it is recommended that you contact your dentist and/or United Concordia for assistance.

Overview

United Concordia Companies, Inc., (United Concordia) administers the Department of Defense's Active Duty Dental Program (ADDP) to all eligible active duty uniformed service members*.

The ADDP provides private sector dental care to ensure dental health and deployment readiness for active duty service members (ADSMs). The ADDP provides dental care to ADSMs who are unable to receive required care from a military dental treatment facility (DTF). United Concordia will coordinate an appointment for routine dental care (e.g., examinations, cleanings, fillings) within 21 calendar days of request and 28 calendar days for specialty dental care (e.g., crowns, bridges, dentures, periodontal treatment).

The ADDP provides authorized civilian dental care under two distinct components for ADSMs who are either:

Referred from a military dental treatment facility (DTF)
(DTF-referred)**

Or

Reside and work (duty location) greater than 50 miles from a military DTF and receive remote benefits through the
Active Duty Dental Program (Remote ADSMs)

*Dental care for ADSMs of the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS) is covered independently by the PHS.

**Extended Leave (e.g., block, terminal, returning from deployment): This guideline applies to all ADSMs who are assigned to a military installation with an onsite military dental treatment facility (DTF). If you are on extended leave more than 50 miles from your DTF, you must call United Concordia to coordinate private sector dental care prior to receipt of care. We can be reached at 1-866-984-2337. Please ensure that you inform us of your extended-leave status.

The ADDP is available in the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. For information on receiving OCONUS dental care, visit TRICARE Overseas Program Prime Remote Website .

United Concordia pays claims for dental care under the ADDP. Treatment must be provided by a United Concordia network dentist in order to be eligible for payment, unless otherwise approved by United Concordia.
